Handful Partners with For the Breast of Us -- Black Health Matters

on October 05, 2020

Handful has long supported the Young Survival Coalition (YSC) through our 12.5% for the 12.5% program where we donate 12.5% of revenue from the sale of Battle Cry Pink bras year round (12.5% representing the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the US). So we were excited to learn that two YSC women of color were forming an organization called For the Breast of Us (FTBOU) that is dedicated to supporting underrepresented women in the breast cancer community!

This month of October, Breast Cancer Action Month (not just Awareness) as co-founder of For the Breast of Us, Jasmine Souers, calls it, we are so proud to sponsor the group's Wellness Wednesdays and outfit their Baddie Ambassadors with Handful activewear.

Jasmine Souers and Marissa Thomas have created a vibrant organization, and here in their own words is their mission:

"A cancer diagnosis changes everything. As a woman of color, where do you go or who do you turn to when you’re in the midst of the fight of your life? You search online for stories and images of women who’ve gone through treatment and look like you, but you find little to nothing. Maybe you scroll down your timeline on social media, hoping to see a glimmer of hope in the face of other fighters and survivors, but you still yearn for something more. That’s where For the Breast of Us comes in. Our mission at For the Breast of Us is to uplift women of color affected by breast cancer by sharing stories that educate, inspire and connect."

Stay tuned for Handful sponsored videos, a wellness webinar, and a call to ACTION this month. We are all aware that breast cancer exists. Let's take that knowledge and do something with it to make a difference, using Marissa and Jasmine as our inspiration: “We couldn’t get a seat at the table. So, we’re building our own!”
